Planting Roots for Recovery: MCF Supports Treecovery Hawaii’s Mission
When the August 8th, 2023 Maui wildfires swept through Lāhainā and Kula, thousands of residents lost not only their homes but also the living landscape that had shaded, nourished, and beautified their communities. Treecovery Hawaii was born out of that loss — with a simple, powerful mission: to provide trees for free for the people of Lāhainā and Kula who lost theirs in the fires.
For the past several months, Maui Community Foundation (MCF) has had the privilege of working alongside Treecovery Hawaii, helping them strengthen their capacity so they can bring hope and greenery back to our island. As one Treecovery Hawaii leader shared:
“The expertise that Maui Community Foundation has provided to my nonprofit Treecovery Hawaii over the last 4+ months has been instrumental in taking us to the next level… I would recommend your nonprofit consider Maui Community Foundation.” Matthew Murasko, Co-founder Treecovery Hawaii
This is exactly what MCF was created to do. Our mission is to strengthen the capacity of community partners to engage in recovery efforts and foster long-term sustainability. We do this by promoting philanthropy, providing charitable services to donors, and offering strategic grant services to nonprofits like Treecovery Hawaii.
The work of planting a tree is also the work of planting resilience — it’s an investment in the future. We are proud to stand beside organizations who are restoring not just landscapes, but community spirit.
If your nonprofit is seeking strategic support to grow your impact, or if you’re a donor who believes in strengthening the organizations driving Maui’s recovery and sustainability, MCF is here to help.
